December 2011 saw the death of country singer Billie Jo Spears aged 74. Born in 1937 Billie was with Capitol Records when she recorded such classics as Ode To Billie Joe and Harper Valley PTA, but those were all from the 1960s.


As she entered the 1970s she failed to have any hits until she came to 1975 when she scored a U.S. No. 1 with Blanket On The Ground, which reached No. 6 in the UK.
