70s Music Christmas 1971

The 70s music Christmas charts were so important in the 1970s, with not only the prestige of getting a Christmas hit, but a NUMBER One Christmas hit was the icing on the cake, the Christmas Cake.

During this 70s music  Christmas Season we look at the music of Christmas Day 1971 and highlight those Christmas records to stir the memory of the 70s music.

Not much in the snow and Christmas tradition in this chart, but the No.1 was a Christmas novelty record, following on from a big hit with Grandad the previous year, another comedy actor the legendary Benny Hill managed to get the Christmas Number One with:-

For those that live around Europe (Australia included), once a year since the 1950s the Eurovison Song Contest is held. This contest is to find a group that will be the best of the best in Europe, and is voted by every participating country. Needles to say the politics of the region play very high.

With all its many flaws it brings in a huge live TV audiences of around 100 million people.

The music is so hard to categorise, as almost anything seems to go.

Reggae from the Pioneers, Dave & Ansel Collins and Greyhound, Soul from Jackson 5 and Diana Ross, Classic Rock from Atomic Rooster and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Elvis had a double A and Jim Reeves had a Triple A out this week plus many more classics and less heard songs from July 1971
