In Memory 2011: Andrew Gold

Andrew Gold was born in 1951 in California and died in June 2011. He was best known for his  single hits, but was also a  painter and an actor.

Andrew appeared on the single by Linda Ronstadt "You're so Good" and he was in her band for for several years during the 1970s. He also played the instruments on Art Garfunkel's 1975 hit I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU ".
He had worked with Queen, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson and so many more too.


But he was best known for his single hits from the 1970s. The single "Lonely Boy" came from his album "What's wrong with is picture? and the vocals came from Linda Ronstadt. The song is all about a neglected young boy.

In the UK this was followed by a smaller hit called "How can this be love?".

In 1978 he had this big U.S. hit with "Thanks for being a friend", which in the 1980s became the theme tune to the classic comedy series "The Golden Girls". The song came from the album "All this and Heaven Too".

The biggest UK hit came in 1978 with "Never Let Her Slip Away"
