In Memory 2011 Phoebe Snow

In January 2011 Phoebe Snow went into a coma after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. She survived in hospital until late April, and died at the age of 60.


She was born Phoebe Ann Laub in 1950s New York, and later married Denny Cordwell in 1972, who was a British record producer working on groups like the Moody Blues and Joe Cocker. Denny died in 1995.

Phoebe in 1975 went on to have a baby girl, who had severe brain damage. The girl called Valerie was cared for at home by Phoebe, until Valerie died in 2007 at the age of 31.




Phoebe Snow as a huge star in the US, and a little less known outside.

The album "Phoebe Snow" was released in 1974 and became a huge US hit and even won her the Grammy Award for Best New Artist of that yea, bringing her huge attention and  this propelled her to be on the front cover of  "Rolling Stone" magazine, and to tour with the likes of Jackson Browne and the amazing Paul Simon.

Paul and Phoebe released a single called "Gone At Last", and she even appeared on backing to Paul's "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover".

One of her biggest and most well remembered hits in the US is "Poetry Man" form the first album. Snow wrote this herself, and it was rumoured and then denied that it was about her friend Jackson Browne.

Her biggest UK hit came in 1978 when she scored a number 38 in the BBC charts with "Every Night".
